shark week

well i will tell you something. i love shark week. and we were gone all of the exact dates of it and so i did not get to celebrate it during the actual time so i did a little bit late. yesterday, we watched 2008 shark week reruns & also jaws and we ate all the junk food in the world and it was a lovely celebration.

anyways, here are some photos & facts in honor of the greatest discovery channel week of the year!

there are about 30-50 reported shark attacks annually. only 20 of the 350 shark species attack humans.

humans kill over 73 million sharks annually.

sharks livers contain a lot of oil which makes it a relatively buoyant organ, helping sharks keep balance in the water.

great white, mako & salmon sharks will drown if they stop moving. they need water constantly running over their gills and they don't have the muscles to do it themselves if they stop moving.

whale sharks are the worlds biggest fish. they can give birth to up to 300 baby whale sharks in one litter!!!

sharks skeletons are made completely of cartilage, an elastic cartilage that is much softer than bones. when a shark dies, salt from the water dissolves the cartilage leaving behind only the sharks teeth.

I LOVE SHARK WEEK.

all pictures & facts from here. check it out to watch episodes & videos from this years shark week!

navajo trip 2011

so i've been gone for like 2 weeks or something and i will tell you why, its because i went on a missions trip with the youth group to arizona, to the navajo indian reservation! there is soo much that happened, i wouldn't even know where to begin. but i will just say that God worked so much in my heart & i feel so loved after that trip, its crazy.
one of the best moments (ofmylife) happened when we were there. there was this navajo lady named louva and she came with her three daughters & son in-law and they all told us stories from when they were growing up and such. & they were selling the jewelry that they make, made with real silver & turquoise & other gems. & so i got this bracelet from them

and the best moment is this: i went up to the daughter in the purple & her husband and i was talking to them for a little while and they asked me what tribe i am from (!) and that i look native american!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they for real asked that! and it just was the happiest moment for me, & the biggest compliment i have ever received.

also, i saw the grand canyon for the first time and i cried. also, it literally took my breath away. it was so beautiful and HUGE and i do not understand how ANYONE can say there is no God when they see something like that.

after the crying

panorama.

here are some other pretty pictures from the trip.
kayla, she did not let go of me all week. so much love in that little girl.

something pretty in arizona.

the desert has the best skies. that is my theory. more on that later.

(window rock--this is like the statue of liberty for the navajo people, bigger deal for them than the grand canyon)

overall, a great trip. God's love was shown & felt by a lot of people & that is such a beautiful thing.
